Air Hockey Pucks

Need some new air hockey pucks for your table? You’ve come to the right place for information about all of the different pucks available. Let’s dive right in and get started!

Air hockey pucks are almost always made out of the same material. A polycarbonate resin called Lexan. You’ve likely already heard of it. This type of material is very lightweight and allows the puck to float easily and move around quickly on the cushion of air from your table.

Size, shape, color and weight are the areas that you’ll need to pay attention to when shopping for new pucks. Size is the most important factor to take note of. If you buy the wrong size, the new puck may not fit your table and could get stuck in the puck return or goal area.

There are two sizes: one for commercial, professional, tournament tables and the other for home tables. Pucks for commercial sized tables are 3 1/4″ inches in width and are usually thicker than pucks made for home tables. Air hockey pucks for home tables are 2 1/2″ in width and are thinner than the pucks made for commercial or professional tables. Make sure to measure the size of the pucks that came with your table to make sure that you are replacing them with the correct size. If you’ve lost the pucks, check the owner’s manual or look online. You’ll likely be able to find out what sized puck works best with your particular air hockey table.

Pucks are available in all sorts of shapes. The traditional puck shape is a circle. This is the only shape that is used in tournament play and typically the only shape that the larger commercial sized pucks are available in. Home pucks are available in a range of other shapes such as triangles and octagons. These shapes can add some fun and variety to your home games.

The colors of air hockey pucks can vary wildly. Red, black and fluorescent green are three of the most popular colors. Pucks are also available in white, blue, yellow, gray and pink. Some home pucks are also available with patterns on them as well.

If you have a table such as the Dynamo HotFlash 2 or others that have black or neon lights you can use glow in the dark pucks. These are great for parties and can make playing air hockey quite fun.

The other way that air hockey pucks vary is in weight. Pucks for home use are available in weights anywhere from 8 to 16 grams. Professional pucks used in tournament play are much heavier due to their larger width and thicker size. These pucks can weigh up to 41 grams. A good idea is to buy a sample pack that contains pucks of various weights. That way you can play with all of them and decide which weight works best for your table.
